Mobil construction crane MK88: Night work caused no problems
An overnight work task in Munich, Germany, allowed the MK 88 mobile construction crane to demonstrate its system benefits. As renovation work progressed, air conditioning units had to be lifted on to the roof of the building opposite. Fortunately, this mobile construction crane is so compact that only a single road lane had to be closed.
For a task to be completed overnight in a big city where noise could otherwise have been a problem, the MK 88’s economical and extremely quiet 48 kVA diesel generator was a genuine asset, as well as making it independent of the main power supply. The power for crane erecting and subsequent operation come either from the standard superstructure power unit or from another source.
The MK concept also proved its worth during erecting work: the erecting kinematics with their extremely compact airborne assembly envelope made it unnecessary to remove street lighting masts or overhead power supply cables. Automatic load swing damping and the MICROMOVE mode assisted the operator in positioning the easily damaged loads accurately at the lowering point. A variable-height lift cabin and lighting integrated into the jib provided an unobstructed view of the work area.
